How can you become involved? Please prayerfully consider
loaning nativities for the show, volunteering for music, donating
for the silent auction, helping with set-up or greeting in the
rooms the days of the show. We invite youth leaders to bring their
youth groups and ask pastors for their help in publicizing
"COME TO THE MANGER" to their congregation and church
leaders.
"COME TO THE MANGER" focuses on the real reason for
the season and encourages individuals and families to take a break
from the hustle and bustle of holiday preparations. Make it part

First UMC celebrates their 175th year in Cleveland
First United Methodist Church
Euclid Ave., Cleveland
One of Cleveland's most diverse congregations - celebrated its
175th year in Cleveland and its 100th year at its present location
with two events in October.
A grand concert called "Sounds of Celebration" was
held on October 10 for the entire Cleveland community. And church
members marked the 100th anniversary of the laying of the
cornerstone for the church at E. 30th Street and Euclid Avenue
with an anniversary sermon from Dr. Kenneth W. Chalker and a group
photograph on the church's front steps. "One hundred,
seventy-five years is a wonderful benchmark to note and celebrate,
“ Dr. Chalker said. "It reveals a trusted history of
performance which is a dynamic indication of how we will face the
future. I am not sure what the future holds for First Church. But
I am absolutely sure that our strength resides in the fact that weknow WHO holds the future. We are content to be in God's
hands," he said. The church will wrap up its anniversary
celebration on November 23, the Sunday before Thanksgiving, with a
look at where the church is today. The event will include the
showing of a church video, presentation of a church quilt and a
display of a new time capsule to be buried on church grounds.
First Church has long been known for its social outreach programs
to the city's most vulnerable residents: children, the elderly,
the poor and homeless. Its members live throughout Cuyahoga,
Geauga, Lake and Lorain counties. Its membership cuts across the
boundaries of race, geography, economics, sexual orientation, and
even religious backgrounds that often separate people from one
another. (Written by Angela Chatman, Cleveland Together
writer and member of First UMC)
